CRÉATEUR’s Unpublished Créative Samantha Wildflowa

“I view myself as a channel for Spirit to move through while I create. Being raised in a strict Roman Catholic household, my relationship to God is very sacred to me. When I am creating, I fall into trance and let my hand take over - most times I have no idea what I am creating until the work is complete.”

I appreciate and enjoy creating within the stylistic realm of Abstract Expressionism. By choice of colors, marks, and textures I am able to display extreme emotions and sensations that are not easily transcribed through words alone. My mediums of choice include but are not limited to: acrylic paint, watercolor paint, oil paint, oil pastel, spray paint, charcoal, colored pencil, plant matter/ organic material, elemental mediums like fire and salt water, textiles, mirror pieces, collage, photography, etc. I prefer to use multiple mediums at once and experiment with mixing and layering different additives. I enjoy pushing myself outside of every artistic comfort zone.

My vision in this life, as an artist, is to fully embody the alchemist archetype - the poet archetype. Which is to be able to come face to face with the fire that is raw, sacred emotion and then translate the codes and lessons into beauty so that others may consume the knowledge without having to experience the intensity of the flame. I wish to inspire other creatives to listen to their intuition when creating and to push themselves out of every box that society tries to put on them. As we continue to step into this Post COVID Art Era, we see old paradigms fall within the contemporary art world. As art degrees hold less value, raw creativity takes center stage.

"Let your hand do the work." - Clyde Hill, my father

As a child my father taught me to let my hand do the work, to not over think what I was drawing or painting. This quote lives in my head and continues to be a guiding force in all of my artwork.. This life lesson from my dad is the foundation to how I can completely trust Spirit in the creation process and let myself become fully in trance while creating.

"There is no such thing as a mistake, only new creations" - Julie Hill, my mother

Growing up my family was constantly struggling with money. Though this quote was inspired by the fact that my parents could not afford endless amounts of printer paper to be discarded due to creative 'mess ups', this quote along with my father's, is the foundation to how I create art today and how I am able to fully trust my flow. Even when I get upset, feel as though I ruined a piece of art by adding a certain color or brush stroke, this quote pushes me to keep going and see through the creative process fully. All of the paintings that I feel like I "messed up on" turn into my absolute favourite pieces upon completion. My mother taught me to trust the process, while my father taught me how to surrender to Spirit and let myself be guided through creation.

Ideas To Work By:

  • Trust your Intuition. If you feel called to use a certain color, brush stroke or additive: Do it! And don't think twice! You will be amazed when you are finished how many new techniques you discovered through experimental creation.

  • Push yourself outside of every creative box. If you feel nervous to try something new, maybe this is a style or new medium, it means you are on the right track. When you feel uncomfortable/ scared that you may mess up, that is Spirit giving you the green light. You will be amazed by how easily you were able to integrate the new skill and you may surprise yourself with how good you actually are at the new skill. The hardest part is always pushing yourself outside of the creative box.

  • Get outside! As contemporary artists, many of us seek creative inspiration online via social medias or creative sites like Pinterest and Tumblr. I have personally found that exercise outside, not in a gym, gives me the most creative ideas. A walk around your neighborhood will not only ground you back into your body, it allows your mind time to wander while your body is engaged in activity. This is one of the biggest sweet spots.
