Leslie Mendez

Thrashing back and forth with bold passion across the canvas, Leslie’s paints find themselves winding into perfectly imperfect placements.

Working with acrylics and mixed media, Leslie views every line as an expression of pain, excitement, and delicacy. Her paintings move adventurously through love, courage, and intuition.

As a self-taught abstract artist having studied photography, an inherent play of light and shadow are at the core of her work. Her art is poetic and bold, filled with bright colors and lots of emotion. Leslie is a lover of the truth, and that’s what pushes her to paint. And with each finished painting comes enlightenment—not only for the artist, but the viewer as well. Each painting invites you to look at it longer and wonder at the truth behind its creation.

“Every line in fact is not just a line. It’s an expression of pain, excitement, and delicacy.”- Leslie Mendez

Living in truth is what seems to come first for Leslie. Born in Guatemala yet raised in a faith-based Seattle home, she’s moved away from stricter thought structures and has begun to move toward what she feels to be authentically true. Through abstract inspirations, Leslie works not only in acrylic but loves to experiment with mixed media. Whether through torn paper, fixed canvas, collage, graphite, or oil pastel, Leslie’s work is wonderfully intuitive and adventurous, encouraging others to live their own truth as she continuously discovers new manifestations of her own.

“Every line is the actual experience with its own unique story.” - CY Twombly

Most recently Leslie’s works have shifted into a minimalist realm. Focusing on thoughts, storytelling, and holding space with minimal marks, gestures, and swirls, the plain eye may initially find chaos here, though to the truth seeker like Leslie, one may find themselves mesmerized by the fluidity and depth that plays on the mind’s ability to weave recognizable form and structure that comprise the emotion born out of each line.
