Jennifer Hui

Elegance, mystery, and whimsy often hide in plain sight, and if we take the time to be present and look deeper into the ordinary, we might catch a glimmer of enchantment. This presence is something that Jennifer Hui’s work captures. Whether through graphic design, graphite sketches, or digital painting, her pieces display the magic of natural simplicity that exists in the essence of a moment.

As a designer and illustrator, Jennifer finds inspiration in these things that are elegant, mysterious, and whimsical, and her creations are a reminder to be aware of the moment and find beauty in the ordinary. Though we are presented with these shapes, images, and moments every day, it isn’t always easy to have the mindset or perception to access their beauty. Jennifer looks to the words of Kurt Vonnegut to keep these ideals in check:

Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, ‘It might have been.’
— Kurt Vonnegut

Jennifer says, “through my creative career, the only regrets I have are the opportunities I didn’t seize. I think life is too short for us not to make the most of our time doing what we love—and for me, that is art.”

As a product designer by day, and illustrator by night, Jennifer does make the most of her time doing what she loves, and the results are distinct and organized. The ingenuity of her work lies in her unique observation that conjures the wonder of the world from its surroundings, drawing inspiration from landscape design, travel, cultures, food, animated films, and environmental sustainability.

Understanding her educational background in environmental science and landscape architecture helps offer insight into the perspectives from which Jennifer observes her surroundings. The mind of a creative isn’t limited to just one outlet of expression, and Jennifer finds herself working across a variety of media and often mixes them. With digital and graphite, collages, and even landscape photography from her window, Jennifer has a keen eye that can capture the nuance and beautiful truth of realism.
